Rise Africa Wednesday: “Best Aiyorworth”

Name: Best Aiyorworth
Age: 21
Country: Uganda

Best Aiyorworth is one of the many young female Africans we applaud during our Feminism theme this month. At the age of 21, Best started the Girls’ Power Micro Lending Organisation that is designed to help young girls through supporting their mothers. The goal is to empower women’s businesses by providing capital to expand their existing trades in order to equip their daughters with a sound education. Ultimately it is clear to see that Best Aiyorworth is fully aware of the unequal distribution of resources due to unfortunate financial circumstances especially among women in Africa.

Niger, 2009: Three-month-old Abdoulrachid laughs outside his home in Maradi Region. He is exclusively breastfed, thanks to a UNICEF-supported programme that encourages healthy family practices. The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) celebrated its 20th anniversary on 20 November 2009. The CRC is the most endorsed human rights treaty in the world, expressing in international law the rights due every child. Article 24 of the Convention recognizes the right of the child to the “highest attainable standard of health,” including health care and nutritious foods.
